Dr. Leonik A. Ahumada, MD is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who specializes in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. He has been in practice since 2005 and has strived to improve the lives of his patients through plastic surgery both from aesthetic and reconstructive concerns. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (F.A.C.S), member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (A.S.P.S) and member of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (A.S.A.P.S). He is trained in the latest cosmetic and reconstructive techniques. He has been a staff member with privileges at West Marion Community Hospital, Munroe Regional Medical Center and the Ocala Regional Trauma Center as well as several surgical centers since 2005.
Dr. Ahumada’s family is from South America, he speaks Spanish fluently and was raised in Miami, Florida where he was a Miami Herald Scholar Athlete award recipient and state level soccer player. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biochemical sciences at Harvard University (’93) and he graduated with honors. Afterward he earned his doctor of medicine degree from the University Of Miami Miller School Of Medicine receiving academic awards and an award for research. He then completed a five year residency in General Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham followed by a two year residency/fellowship in Plastic Surgery also at the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he received the Argus teaching award, clinical and basic science research awards, a research grant and was chief resident in both General Surgery and Plastic Surgery. Dr. Ahumada has presented his research at national meetings and has several publications. He uses his extensive surgical background and experience to provide a natural looking cosmetic appearance as well as to reconstruct complex cancer related defects.
Dr. Ahumada is married and has three daughters which keep him balanced and busy outside of medicine. He enjoys time with family watching his daughters compete in gymnastics and soccer. He also coaches a competitive/travel soccer team (Ocala Premier Big Sun Soccer) in Ocala, biking at Santos trail, and watching futbol at the stadium or on television.
